Scope and Contents note

Collection of stories about angelic experiences. All of the informants are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Olsen asserts that each of the experiences is very personal and very real. She reveres each of the stories as sacred and should be treated as such. Olsen makes note of common themes found with the narrations. Created by Holly Olsen while he was enrolled in Eric Eliason's English 391 class during the winter semester of 2003.

Genres of epitaphs include those lauding the virtue of the dead, epitaphs spoken by voices from the dust, grief and sadness, peace and rest, afterlife, hope of an afterlife, and hope of a glorious resurrection.

Dalton decided that her long interest in epitaphs and tombstones would be worth an investigation for a folklore course. She included the text of the epitaph and, for many of the tombstones, images of the grave marker; she divided the kinds of epitaphs in the following categories philosophies, brief candles, memento mori, sermons on stone, tribute to dead, and victims of chance and circumstance. Project was created for an English 391 course taught at Brigham Young University in 1969.
